Funpark De Valkenier − fun for generations of families
1934: Valkenburg Natural Lake Resort
It was back in the 1930s that the Otermans, a young married couple, made their dream a reality by creating a playground with a boating lake on a piece of wasteland. Later, the park was extended to include a restaurant and an open-air swimming pool too: the Valkenburg Natural Lake Resort was born. The park quickly gained in popularity, with people flocking to enjoy a relaxing day out in the lovely town of Valkenburg.
From resort to family park
The resort’s swimming pool was unique in being the first in the Netherlands to accommodate mixed male and female swimming. The park steadily grew with new attractions being added every year, including attractions for younger visitors. The park was given a new name: Funpark De Valkenier. The funpark soon gained a reputation for being the best family park for miles around. Visitors to enjoyable and inexpensive De Valkenier came from far and wide.
Fun for generations of families
Some of the children who now come to play at De Valkenier are the grandchildren of its very first visitors. They are often accompanied by their grannies and grandads who treasure their childhood memories of the family park.
